Vision impairment, diabetic retinopathy, and disability in adults 50+ in Palestine
This study utilized the Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness methodology to conduct a population-based survey. Key Findings:
- Among adults aged 50+, 25.8% had some form of vision impairment, with 2.6% classified as blind.
- Diabetes prevalence was 33.8%, and approximately half (47.7%) of those with diabetes had diabetic retinopathy or maculopathy.
- 23.8% of participants reported functional limitations, with higher rates observed in women.
This study highlighted a high prevalence of vision impairment and diabetic retinopathy among older adults, underscoring the need for targeted public health interventions.
