Trends in Myopia and High Myopia Among Chinese Youth
This systematic review and meta-analysis provides updated data on the prevalence of myopia and high myopia among Chinese children. Key Findings:
- The overall myopia prevalence was 36.6%, and high myopia prevalence was 5.3% overall.
- Under experience-based model, the overall myopia and high myopia prevalences were projected to be 61.3% and 17.6% in 2050.
- Myopia is more common in urban areas, though the gap is narrowing.
- Increased screen time and less outdoor activity contribute to higher rates.
The study provides data for guiding the implementation and evaluating the effectiveness of existing and new nationwide myopia prevention and control programs.
