Protective Factors Against Myopia Progression in Vietnamese Students
This study investigated factors that may prevent the progression of myopia among secondary school students in Hue City, Vietnam. Key Findings:
- Myopia prevalence rose from 32.7% to 56.3% over three years
- Time spent playing sports outdoors reduced both the likelihood of developing myopia (by about 50%) and slowed its progression.
- Students with hyperopia had a lower incidence of myopia
- The cumulative incidence of myopia was 40.6% over the 3-year period (annual incidence of 12.5%)
This study revealed both myopia incidence and progression and identified myopia-risk and myopia-protective behavioural factors in a Vietnamese cohort of secondary school students.
