Framework for integrating refractive error services into Kenya’s eye health via social enterprise
This study developed a framework for integrating refractive error services through social enterprises. Key Findings:
- Social enterprises are seen as effective for scaling affordable refractive error services.
- Expected benefits include improved access, efficiency, awareness, and workforce capacity.
- The framework emphasizes the integration of telemedicine to enhance refractive error service delivery, enabling coordinated care from community to tertiary levels and improving accessibility in resource-constrained settings.
The study identified key components such as vision centers, cross-subsidization, skills development, partnerships, and technology as essential for scaling effective refractive error coverage in Kenya.
