Eye care service utilization in Andabet, Northwest Ethiopia: a multilevel analysis
This study assessed the utilization of eye care services among older adults in Andabet District in Ethiopia. Key Findings:
- Only 16.14% of older adults utilized eye care services, indicating suboptimal service uptake.
- Significant predictors of eye care service utilization included age (≥65 years), health insurance coverage, proximity to eye care facilities, and awareness of regular eye checkup.
- Approximately 89% of older adults were unaware of the importance of regular eye checkups, highlighting a critical barrier to eye care service utilization.
The study highlights that policymakers should prioritize accessible health insurance and expand eye care facilities, especially in rural areas. Integrating routine eye exams into primary care and launching widespread awareness campaigns can promote preventive eye health.
