Development and Evaluation of the Bengali ‘Dristi’ Eye Health App
This study focused on developing and evaluating ‘Dristi’, a mobile health application designed for early detection of impaired visual acuity in Bangladesh. The app was specifically adapted with Bengali letters to serve the local population and tested across multiple healthcare settings. Key Findings:
- For distant vision testing: Accuracy ranged from 62-86%, sensitivity from 77-98%, and specificity from 38-67% across different settings
- For near vision testing: Accuracy of 84%, sensitivity of 96%, and specificity of 37%
- The app performed best in private clinic settings and showed significant differences in performance across various testing locations
This study highlights the potential for the app to be adapted for use in other regions and languages.
