Childhood Blindness in Cambodian Schools for the Blind
This study investigated the prevalence and causes of childhood blindness at schools for the blind in Cambodia.
Key findings:
- Corneal diseases remain the leading cause of vision loss, accounting for 33.9% of cases.
- A significant majority (71.19%) of childhood blindness is avoidable.
- No significant change in the causes of childhood blindness since 2009, suggesting that previous intervention programs have had limited impact.
The study highlights a clear need for evidence-based targeted interventional programmes in Cambodia.
