Cataract Burden and Determinants in Adults Over 40 in Ethiopia
This meta-analysis aimed to assess the burden and determinants of cataract among adult people aged 40 years and above in Ethiopia. Key Finding:
- The pooled prevalence of cataracts among adults aged 40 and above was 36%.
- Cataract prevalence was higher in females (20%) compared to males (17%).
- Prevalence increased significantly with age, from 6% in those aged 40–49 years to 40% in individuals aged 50 years and above.
This study found cataract control in Ethiopia may arise from heeding the findings of the current study and putting international policy initiatives into practice.
